The Fine Art of Candle Care

Candle Tips: How to prolong the beauty of Olde South Candles

When burning a jar candle, always handle with care an obey all warning labels. To minimize wax left on the sides of the jar, burn the candle for no more than three hours at one time. It is normal for some wax residue to be left behind. Do not let the flame touch the sides of the glass. Extinguish candles carefully before replacing the lid. To protect your surfaces, discontinue use when approximately 1/2” of wax remains. Remember to burn all candles on a heat resistant surface and never leave a burning candle unattended. Any candle might smoke and drip if a draft is present or if a candle is not getting enough oxygen. Therefore, burning a candle in a small enclosed room will not always produce the best results.

The secret to blowing out your candle is to use a candle snuffer. Another effective method is to put two fingers out sideways an inch in front of the flame so it is not visible. Blow directly at your fingers. The flow of air will be blocked and immediately extinguish the flame.

Store Olde South Candles in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate or freeze your candles. This causes candles to crack. However, refrigerating your candle holders overnight will make unwanted wax easier to remove.

Remember to follow all safety instructions and warning labels, and keep lit candles out of reach of children and pets.
